Local public holidays in 2021 – Province of Alicante

On the 29th of December, 2020, the calendar of local public holidays in the different towns of the Valencian Community for 2021 was published in the DOGV (Official Gazette from the Valencian Regional Government).

The local public holidays of some of the towns of the Province of Alicante are as follows:

AGOST: 10th of March, día de la Vella (Day of the Old Lady, when dolls made to look like ‘old ladies’ are placed in the doorways of houses together with a sign containing socially critical but humorous texts and a prize is given for the best ‘old lady’ and the best ‘Sign’) and the 5th of July, the feast day of Saint Peter the Apostle.                       

ALICANTE: 15th of April, the Santa Faz pilgrimage and the 23rd of June, Saint John’s Eve festivities.   

ALTEA:  27th and 28th of September.

BENIDORM:  15th and 16th of November.

 CAMPELLO, EL  16th of July, the feast day of Virgen del Carmen (the patron saint of fishermen and sailors) and the 15th of October, the feast day of Saint Teresa.

CASTALLA:  2nd and 3rd of September, the Moors and Christians festival.

CATRAL:   5th of February, the feast day of Saint Agatha and the 24th of June, the feast of Saint John.

COCENTAINA: 19th of April and 29th of October.

CREVILLENTE:  1st of April and 4th of October.

ELCHE:  12th of April, the feast day of Saint Vincent and the 29th of December, the feast day of the Venida de la Virgen (with the Arrival of the Virgin Procession).

GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA: 23rd of July, the feast day of Saint James and the 7th of October, the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.

IBI: 10th and 13th of September.

MUTXAMEL: 1st of March, the Milagro de la Lágrima festivities (the Miracle of the Tear is a floral tribute and procession that is organised to give thanks to the patron saint of the town, for the miracle that occurred in 1545 when rain was sent, which was so needed at the time) and the 9th of September, the festivities of the town’s patron saint Virgen del Loreto.

NOVELDA:  12th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicente Ferrer and the 22nd of July, the feast day of the patron saint Mary Magdalene.

NUCIA, LA: 12th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicente Ferrer and the 17th of August, the August festivities.

ONIL: 23rd and 30th of April.

ORIHUELA: 17th of July, the parade with the Gloriosa Enseña del Oriol (the flag of Orihuela) and the Fiestas de la Reconquista (festivities to celebrate the arrival of the Christian reconquest in the 13th century), and the 8th of September, the feast day of the patron saint of the town of Orihuela Ntra. Sra. de Monserrate.

PETRER:  17th of May, the Moors and Christians celebrations and the 7th of October, the feast day of the patron saint Nuestra Señora del Remedio.

ROJALES: 29th of June, the feast day of St Peter and St Paul and the 7th of October, the feast day of Virgen del Rosario.

SAN ISIDRO:  Unspecified on the date that this gazette was published.

SAN VICENTE DEL RASPEIG: 12th and 13th of April.

SANTA POLA: 16th of July, the feast day of Virgen del Carmen (the patron saint of fishermen and sailors) and the  and the 8th of September, the festivities of the town’s patron saint Virgen del Loreto.

TORREVIEJA:  12th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicente Ferrer and the 16th of July, the feast day of Virgen del Carmen (the patron saint of fishermen and sailors).

 VERGER, EL: 12th of April and 16th of August.
